BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE
Rise and shine for a morning visit to the World of Coca-Cola and view the unparalleled collection of over 1,000 articles of memorabilia recounting the century-old history of the world's most popular soft drink. Exhibits include soda fountains of the past and the future, films that offer a special look at those unforgettable commercials and a fantastic gift shop offering Coca-Cola merchandise and collectibles. Once you've quenched your thirst at the World of Coca-Cola, it's time to satisfy your appetite at Hard Rock Cafe. Stroll down Peachtree Street to the intersection of Peachtree and International Drive and enjoy a delightful meal at Hard Rock. Be sure to view some of the memorabilia on the walls as you'll surely find a photo or a musical instrument of one of your favorite musicians! Macy's, one of Atlanta's favorite department stores is steps away from Hard Rock. If shopping makes your heart thump, here's a great place to browse from floor to floor to floor! Afternoon For solid rock fun every day of the year, head to the east side of Atlanta and explore the world's largest exposed granite monolith--Georgia's Stone Mountain. This foundation of rock is a true testimonial to the primordial heat and power that created it over three hundred million years ago! A natural beauty, Stone Mountain Park definitely has something for everyone. Thirty-two hundred acres awaits you. A ride through the park in your vehicle covers five miles along the base of the mountain or discover the inner beauty by Stone Mountain Railroad. There are numerous attractions at this second most visited southeastern attraction. You might take the history lesson at Confederate Hall and the Discovering Stone Mountain Museum. Viewing the Confederate memorial carving can be seen from several spots but an eye-opening experience is found by taking the Swiss cable car 800 feet above the plain! What a view on a clear day of metropolitan Atlanta and the surrounding counties when you step off the cable car at the top! Walk around and breathe the fresh air. You can ride back down to the base or the explorers in the crowd can hike the 1.3 mile journey. There's also the Grist Mill--one of the most photogenic spots of the Park--and you can even stroll across a century-old covered bridge. Now there's more! Golf, tennis and miniature golf await your presence. Or experience the stories of long ago by visiting the plantation. You can even catch a free concert from the 732-bell carillon that was donated to the Park after being exhibited in the 1964 World's Fair! With all these acres around you, there is ample room for roller-blading, jogging or a mild walk along the rolling hills. After you enjoy a meal at one of the numerous dining options offered, the highlight of Stone Mountain Park is the spectacular Laser show that is projected onto the mountain's north face (the carving area). Relax on the lawn and enjoy a dazzling display of laser lights featuring characters, stories and graphics choreographed to popular music (held nightly Memorial Day - Labor Day, but also available on weekends prior to and later than those holidays). |
