1-30 Ancient Microworlds Using high magnification techniques, photographers Giraud Foster and Norman Barker bridge the worlds of art and science to reveal the complex patterns of ancient life in this unique photo exhibition. Ancient Microworlds features 66 fascinating works offering an up-close look at shells, ammonites, dinosaur bones, plant fossils and other remnants of prehistoric life. Brought to life by this innovative photographic technique, the fossils reveal their rich colors, texture and beautiful intricacies. 1-30 Mel Bochner: If the Color Changes Mel Bochner is a conceptual artist who began exhibiting his works in the 1960s. Melding philosophy with painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture, he has always been interested in investigating the relation between thinking and seeing, and his works in recent years have become more sensual, especially in the use of color. The Carlos Museum has acquired two of these recent works, monoprints from a series based on a quotation from the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Remarks on Color. 1-30 Galleries of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art This new installation will feature the important Carlos Museum acquisition of a collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts purchased primarily with funds donated by the citizens of Atlanta. Coming from the Niagara Falls Museum in Canada, the objects include sumptuously decorated coffins-among the finest known from ancient Egypt-10 mummies, Canopic jars, amulets, shawabtis, jewelry, reliefs and more. The objects represent an overview of the development of funerary art in ancient Egypt at its most inventive and prolific period. 1-30 The Tiniest Giants: Discovering Dinosaur Eggs Discover fossilized dinosaur eggs, embryos, embryonic skin and tiny hatchlings that were capable of growing into some of the world’s largest dinosaurs in this exhibition from the badlands of Patagonia, Argentina. Explore the science of paleontology from the dig site to the lab with a special emphasis on understanding the physiology of the dinosaurs and basic environmental interpretation. 1-30 Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West This large-format film chronicles a group of explorers led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark into the uncharted territory of President Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase. It authentically recreates the incredible expedition of the Corps of Discovery as the crew pursues a water passageway to the Pacific Ocean and describes for science the many natural wonders of the West. 13 Sao Paulo Orchestra Founded in 1953, the Sao Paulo Orchestra performs major symphonic works and is at the forefront of classical music in South America. Since its auditions for new members in 1997, the orchestra has featured Brazilian musicians who had long been living and performing abroad, as well as other musicians of diverse origins. Its repertoire includes classical European works as well as thrilling pieces by important Brazilian composers such as Carlos Gomes and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
