Mel Bochner: If the Color Changes

Mel Bochner is a conceptual artist who began exhibiting his works in the 1960s. Melding philosophy with painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture, he has always been interested in investigating the relation between thinking and seeing, and his works in recent years have become more sensual, especially in the use of color. The Carlos Museum has acquired two of these recent works, monoprints from a series based on a quotation from the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Remarks on Color. Those, along with several prints and paintings on loan from other institutions, will compose this vivid exhibition.

Sophie Tucker – American Legend

The legendary Broadway and cabaret performer of the 20’s & 30’s, Sophie Tucker was big, brassy, fun and energetic with an edge, and was the “The Last of the Red Hot Mamas.”  Kathy Halenda, hot off her second widely popular run at the celebrated Florida Studio Theatre, brings to life the fascinating story of this extraordinary trendsetter.  Giving Sophie the dignity, class, and humor she deserves, the show also features such memorable hits as “Life Begins at Forty,” “After You’ve Gone,” and her life-long theme “Some of These Days.”  The ART Station production also stars Patrick Hutchison and is directed by David Thomas.  This show contains adult content and is not appropriate for children.
